We are surrounded by France’s most beautiful villages in the correze. In the Corrèze, enjoy a five-star visit to our officially recognised “Most Beautiful Villages of France” (Les Plus Beaux Villages de France), where you’ll be amazed by their stunning beauty!
Other equally attractive villages, adorned with fountains, churches and unique architecture, are also well worth a visit, such as Argentat, Aubazine, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, Corrèze, Donzenac, Meymac, Pompadour, Treignac and Uzerche.
These villages are open-air museums in their own right, with a life and character all of their own, forged over the centuries by their proud inhabitants.
Why not stop off at Treetops if you or on your way to the Mediterranean, The Correze has a number of archeogical remains that are loaded with mystery and emotion. Among the département’s Gallo-Roman sites, Les Cars in Saint-Merd-les-Oussines stands out for the size and architectural quality of its ruins, which comprise a 2C granite temple, mausoleum and 15-room villa. Another complex is located further east, in the commune of Margerides. An archeological site of Celtic origin, Les Arènes de Tintignac in the commune of Naves, is exceptional for the ritual artefacts discovered here in September 2004 (carnyx horn, helmets etc). Fortresses and Castles The age of chivalry in the Corrèze,
A host of medieval fortresses around the countryside bear witness to the Corrèze’s war-torn history. The centuries-old villages of Ventadour, Turenne, Ségur-le-Château, Comborn and Merle, once impregnable strongholds of local lords, boast vestiges of a glorious, romantic and violent past. Recreational Lakes with Swimming and boating
The département offers supervised swimming in 30 places thanks to its many artificial lakes with Lac de Vassiviere being one of the largest man made lakes in France and only being 40 minutes drive from the Treetops – a refreshing reason to come here in summer! Every water activity is available, from rowing to jet-skiing. The Lac de Neuvic, Lac de Miel in Beynat and Lac des Bariousses in Treignac have both been given the“Pavillon Bleu” award for clean beaches.
Places To Eat : Within 10 minutes drive, Cote Ti Plage on the Lac des bariousses, Booking is recommended in high season, La Brasserie Restaurant in Treignac, La Flambee which is one of our favourites with lovely authentic regional food.
